Singly means alone, or one at a time. The children came in singly means they came one by one, not as a crowd. You can also say that things should not be judged singly if each one only makes sense as part of a group. It is a neat, rather careful word — you will see it in instructions, reports, and writing more than in chat. It does not mean “in a strange way” (that is singularly), and it does not talk about someone's love life.
