The eighteenth letter of the Greek alphabet, written Σ (capital) or σ (lowercase). In math and science, capital sigma usually means "add up all of these" (a sum), and lowercase sigma is often used in for standard deviation. More recently, "sigma" also became internet slang ("sigma male") for a man seen as independent and not following the crowd — a very different, half-joking use.
