A siesta is a short sleep in the afternoon, usually after lunch, especially in hot countries. Shops may close, the street goes quiet, and people rest through the worst heat, then go back to work when it cools. English borrowed the word from Spanish. The old Latin idea was “the sixth hour” after dawn — around noon. It is not any nap. Ten minutes on a night bus is not a siesta. In English the Spanish word makes it feel a bit foreign and a bit pleasant, like a custom you are naming. People sometimes use it as a verb (to siesta), but the noun is the usual one. Though actually, English speakers often stretch it for any afternoon lie-down, even in a cold office. The stricter picture is still that warm-country, after-lunch rest.
組成Borrowed from Spanish siesta, from Latin sexta, “the sixth hour” (counting from dawn, so around noon). English also has an old church-hour word sext from the same Latin word — the noon prayer, not the texting word.
