A showman is someone who knows how to entertain people and pull public attention. The old picture is a circus or theatre person who can hold a whole crowd with their voice and timing. Today we also use it for a politician, a business leader, or a sports star who turns a moment into an event. It can be praise: a born showman. It can also carry a small warning: lots of sparkle, maybe less underneath. The -man ending is old-fashioned. People still say showman for a woman with this gift; show-woman exists but is rare. It does not only mean a person whose job is putting on shows.
