Shovelware is a slightly rude computer word. It is information — or a disc or site full of it — that first lived on paper, in a book, newspaper, or magazine, and then got thrown onto the internet or a CD-ROM with no new or interesting way to look at it or use it. No real search, no helpful links, no extra tools: they just shovelled the old pages onto the new disc. It was a common complaint in the 1990s, when companies rushed old encyclopedias and magazines onto CD-ROMs. People still use it for any lazy copy from one place to another. It is not a virus, and it is not (software you try before you pay). The joke is the shovel.
