In baseball, the shortstop is the fielder who stands on the infield dirt between second base and third base and tries to stop ground balls hit to that side. They need quick feet and a strong arm, because a lot of balls go there, and the throw across to first is long.
In baseball在棒球裡,the shortstop游擊手 is就是 the fielder守備員,who stands站在 second base and third base二壘和三壘 between之間的 the infield dirt內野土地上,and tries to stop負責擋下 ground balls hit to that side打到那一側的滾地球。They需要 need quick feet and a strong arm敏捷的腳步和強壯的手臂,because因為 a lot of balls go there很多球會打到那邊,and而且 the throw across to first傳到一壘 is long距離很長。
It is both the position and the person: “She is the shortstop.” The short in the name is not “a quick pause.” Old baseball put this player in as a close on the short side of the field, and the name stuck.
It is both這個字既是 the position and the person位置名稱,也是人的稱呼:'She is the shortstop.'像「She is the shortstop.」這種說法。The short in the name名字裡的 short is not並不是 'a quick pause.'「a quick pause.」(快速停頓)的意思;Old baseball早期棒球 put this player in把這個守備員 as a close stopper安排在 on the short side of the field球場較短那一側當攔截手,and the name stuck這個名字就沿用下來了。
You will not hear shortstop much outside baseball, except when someone is borrowing the picture. Taiwan baseball already has a daily name for this job, so many students here know the work before they know this English word.
