To short-sheet a bed is an old trick. You fold the top sheet so it only goes halfway down. The bed looks made. When someone gets in and tries to stretch their legs, they hit a wall of sheet and cannot lie down properly. It is a joke, usually among friends — in camps, dorms, or on trips — not something you do to a guest you want to be kind to. Though actually, many younger people have never heard the name, even if they know the trick. It is informal home and camp English. You short-sheet the bed, or you short-sheet someone (you do it to their bed). It has nothing to do with a sheet of paper, and it is not a hotel word for a small bed.
「short-sheet the bed」是一種老把戲：把上面那層床單摺到只到一半長，床看起來鋪得整整齊齊，有人躺進去伸腳時，卻碰到一道床單的牆，腿伸不直。也可以說「short-sheet someone」，就是對某人的床做這件事。
這是朋友之間開玩笑的整人方法，常見於營隊、宿舍或旅行的時候，不會用在想好好招待的客人身上。台灣沒有大家都懂的說法，比較接近的講法是「把床單摺短整人」。這是口語，跟紙張無關，這裡的床單就是床上那層布。很多年輕人沒聽過這個名稱，即使知道這招。
