If a person is shod, they are wearing shoes — but almost never by itself. The word wants a picture of the shoes: well shod, poorly shod, shod in heavy boots. You are saying what kind of shoes they have on, not merely that they have some. A horse is shod when a smith has nailed metal horseshoes to its hooves. It is the old -ed form of the verb to shoe (to put shoes on a person or a horse). In ordinary talk people just say wearing or in: a girl in red shoes. Shod sounds a little old, a little bookish; you meet it in writing more than in the street.
