In Australia and New Zealand, some people call a young woman a sheila. It is slang, not a careful or formal word, and it is local: a teacher in Taiwan, Britain, or the United States would not use it this way in ordinary talk. It comes from the woman’s name Sheila, which was once very common, so the name turned into a word for “a girl” or “a young woman.” Though actually, it is heard more from men, and more from older speakers; some women do not like it, because it can sound like “some girl” rather than a person with a name. Outside those countries, Sheila is just a given name. Do not use sheila in class as a normal English word for “woman.”
組成From the woman’s name Sheila. A second origin on record is a borrowing from Arabic شَيْلَاء (šaylāʔ); that is another story, and this Australian sense is the name.
