Sexism is the belief that one sex — men or women — is weaker, less clever, or less important than the other, and the unfair treatment that grows from that belief. It can live in one person’s attitude, or in a habit at work, at school, or in a whole society: who gets hired, who gets heard, who does the unpaid work. English built the word in the twentieth century from sex + -. It is a serious, word; you use it to name a problem, not as a joke. Though actually, people sometimes stretch it to any comment about men and women they dislike, even when the comment is not really saying one sex is worth less. And here sex means male and female, not the sexual act.
組成From sex + -ism. Sex here is “male and female”; -ism makes a belief, practice, or system.
