Severally means “each one on its own; separately, not as one group.” It is not a night-market word. You meet it in law, contracts, and rather formal writing. The famous pair is jointly and severally: if three people are jointly and severally responsible for a debt, you can ask the whole group — or you can ask any one of them for the full amount. That is how people really use it. Older books also used severally for “each in turn” or “in different ways,” but that now sounds like something from a dusty page. It does not mean “very badly.” That is severely, a different word that only looks similar. If you say severally in casual talk, people may simply not know it; in a contract, it can matter a great deal.
