A sett is a badger's home in the ground: not one simple hole, but a network of tunnels and rooms, often used for years and shared by a family of badgers. You meet the word in nature writing and in British countryside talk; it is the special word for this animal, the way we say den or burrow for others. The two t's are there on purpose, to keep this technical sense apart from ordinary set. It is a quiet, specialist noun — not rude, not slang, just not a word you need in the city. Other technical spellings sett exist (a paving stone, a tartan pattern), but this entry is the badger's home.
