Servicing is the work of checking a machine or a vehicle and doing what is needed so it keeps running well — oil, filters, small repairs, a look-over. You take a car in for servicing; a needs regular servicing. It is the noun for that visit, and also the -ing form of the verb to service. Shops and manuals use it every day; it is practical, not poetic. Though actually, a service can mean the same event (the car is in for a service), while servicing slightly stresses the activity itself. Keep this apart from serving food, and from military service.
