Sera is a plural of serum: the thin, clear part of blood that is left when the thick, clotting parts are taken out. Doctors and lab workers talk about blood sera when they mean more than one sample, or more than one kind. The singular is serum; sera is the old Latin plural. In real life many English speakers, even in science, also say serums, and nobody in a hospital will stare at you for that. Sera still sounds more like a textbook or a lab report. There is also a woman’s name Sera, from Hebrew Sarah, “lady, princess.” That is a different word that only happens to look the same.
