Sequestration is the noun for a court’s taking of property from someone who has not paid their debts, and the holding of that property. So is the doing; sequestration is the name of the action, or of the state the property is in once it has been taken. It is a heavy legal word. In the news you will also hear sequestration for other “setting aside” ideas — keeping a jury away from people, or locking carbon away in trees and soil — but this entry is the debt-and-property meaning. In easy English: the court takes the things and keeps them because money is owed.
