Sepsis is a doctor's word for when infection makes the body go badly wrong. In older, simpler use — the one many books still print — it means an infection in a part of the body that produces : the flesh in that spot is going bad. The body starts to harm its own organs; blood pressure may fall; people can die. News reports (“he died of sepsis”) mean this emergency, not a little in a cut. Ordinary English has no soft everyday . Though actually, doctors argue about the exact border between a local infection, sepsis, and — the tidy dictionary line is tidier than the hospital ward.
組成From Ancient Greek sêpsis, “rotting,” from a verb sḗpō, “to make rotten.” The Greek also used sḗps for a kind of lizard, and for a serpent whose bite was said to make flesh rot; that is the old naming story, not a biology fact you need.
