A sensationalist report, headline, or newspaper is one that makes events sound as strange, , or shocking as possible — the same idea as sensationalism. You will hear it as an adjective in front of news words. The same spelling is also a noun: a sensationalist is a person who reports or talks in that way. In everyday English the adjective is more common than the person-noun. Either way, it is not a compliment.
