Sellafield is a huge nuclear site on the coast of , in the north-west of England. It makes electricity from nuclear power, and it also takes used nuclear fuel and treats it so that some of it can be used again — that second job is called . The place used to be called ; they changed the name, though actually many older British people still remember the old one, partly because of a serious fire there in 1957. Some people who work at Sellafield, and some who live nearby, believe they are more at risk of cancer than other people. Scientists have argued about the numbers for years, so you will hear strong claims on both sides. In English it is treated as a place-name, like a town: you go to Sellafield, you work at Sellafield.

A former village in Beckermet parish, Cumberland council area, Cumbria, England, previously in Copeland borough, now the site of a nuclear reprocessing plant, formerly known as Windscale (OS grid ref NY0203).
