Selfsame means exactly the same — not almost the same, not a copy that is close, but that very one. We nearly always put the in front: the selfsame book, the selfsame day. It is old-fashioned and a little . You will meet it in stories, in careful writing, and in speakers who want extra force. In ordinary talk, people just say the same. Though actually the extra self is doing real work: it points a finger — that very person, that very thing — the way 正是那個 does. It does not mean 'myself' and it does not mean 'the same as me'.

組成self + same. From Middle English self same, 'the very same'. Self here is the old pronoun 'that very person or thing', from Old English self, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *swé. Same is from Old Norse samr, 'same', probably from Proto-Indo-European *sem- ('one, together').
