If your work is self-directed, you are the one who judges it and organises it. You do not sit and wait for someone else to give you every next step. Teachers use it a lot: self-directed learning means the student chooses what to study, how to practise, and when a piece of work is good enough — with help nearby, but not with a boss at the elbow. Workplaces like the word too: a self-directed team runs its own tasks. Though actually it does not mean “no teacher and no rules.” It means the steering wheel is in your hands more often than in theirs. It can sound like praise (you can be trusted) or like a demand (please stop asking me what to do). It is not about directing a film.
「self-directed」形容工作或學習由你自己來判斷、安排，不必等別人一步一步交代。它常放在名詞前面，形成「self-directed + 名詞」的用法，像「self-directed learning」就是學生自己決定學什麼、怎麼練、什麼時候算完成。
在職場上，「a self-directed team」指能自己分配任務的團隊。這個字的語氣可以是讚美，表示對方值得信任，也可以帶點不耐煩，意思是「別再一直問我該做什麼」，要看說話的情境來判斷。
