- 1既然（seeing that / seeing as）
Here seeing is not about your eyes. It is a way to say “because this fact is true.” People say seeing that… or seeing as…: Seeing that it is raining, we should stay in. It belongs to speech and to a slightly older, spoken style; in careful writing many people would just say because or since. You will also hear seeing as how in very casual talk, which some teachers dislike but plenty of people use. It always points to a reason you can both already see, not to a new proof. Do not mix this with I am seeing (looking at something, meeting someone, or dating), or with seeing as a noun in church (the seeing of a vision). This entry is only the “because” use.
