Sedition is speech, writing, or action meant to push people to refuse or fight their government. It is a heavy, formal, legal-sounding word, not a word for everyday disagreement. In some countries it is still a crime; in others the old sedition laws have , because people argue that criticising a government and trying to turn people against it are not the same thing. Though actually, governments have sometimes called ordinary protest “sedition” when they wanted it to sound dangerous. The tidy dictionary line is “encouraging people to the government”; in real life the word sits in that grey place between free speech and rebellion, and people fight over where the line is. You will meet it in news about and law, not in daily chat.
