SEAQ is a computer system at the London Stock Exchange. The letters stand for Stock Exchange Quotation. It shows the prices people are offering for shares — the little pieces of companies that traders buy and sell — so you can see a quote on a screen instead of shouting across a floor. This is a UK finance word, not a sea word, and almost nobody uses it in ordinary life. You meet it in old news about the London market, or in a textbook. London later built other systems for the busiest shares; SEAQ was the quote-on-a-screen idea, especially after the big market changes of the 1980s. Unless you study that market, you can treat it as a name for one London price-information system, not as something you will hear in a shop.
