A Seabee is a person in a special part of the United States Navy whose job is to build. They make landing places for planes, roads, harbours, and other things a fighting force needs — often in rough places, or right where there is fighting, or after a storm. The official name of the unit is the Construction Battalion. The letters CB are the start of that name; if you say C-B out loud, it sounds like “Seabee”, and people began to write it that way. The spelling also makes you think of the sea (the Navy works on the sea) and a bee (a busy worker). It is a US military nickname, always with a capital S. You will meet it in news and history, not in everyday talk in Taiwan. A Seabee is not “any sailor”, and not a kind of insect.
海蜂(美國海軍工程部隊的暱稱;正式名稱是 Construction Battalion)
組成把 Construction Battalion 的縮寫 CB 照讀音拼出來。拼法大概也受到 sea(海軍的海)和 bee(勤勞的蜜蜂)影響。不是 sea + bee 合成的普通複合詞。
