A scone is a small, round, slightly sweet bread-cake. It is not a soft birthday cake and not a . You split it while it is still a bit warm and put butter on it. Some have or other dried fruit inside; many are plain. In Britain people eat them with jam and thick cream as a cream tea — and they argue, with real feeling, about jam first or cream first. Taiwan bakeries sell them too, often a little sweeter. Though actually, even English speakers do not agree how to say the word: some rhyme it with “gone,” some with “cone.” Both are used; neither is a mistake. The food came up through . It is , not fancy restaurant food, unless the restaurant is playing at being a tea shop.
組成Originally Scots. It may come from Middle Low German schöne, a fine-flour bread, or from Middle Dutch schoonbroot, “fine bread,” from schoon (“fine”) + broot (“bread”). Another idea is Scottish Gaelic sgonn, “lump, mouthful.” Nobody has settled it.
