A scimitar is a sword with a curved blade, used in the past, especially in the Middle East and nearby lands. The curve is the heart of the word: it is not a straight European knight’s sword. You meet it in history, stories, and pictures more than in real life now. People sometimes stretch it for anything with that crescent shape, but the core meaning stays “that kind of curved sword.” It is a fairly , story-book word, not one you need in the kitchen or the office.
