Schismatic is the word for a split of that kind — a group tearing into two over aims or belief, especially in the Christian church — or for a person who takes a side in it and will not come back. In church history, calling someone schismatic means you think they tore the church in two: not only disagreed, but walked away and made another group. As an adjective it means “causing that split” or “belonging to it.” It is a hard, often accusing word; the speaker usually sees the split as a wound. Though actually, each side may call the other schismatic. (There is a rare extra meaning in music theory, from a related Greek word about tiny differences in pitch. That is not this sense.)
組成From Middle English scismatik (later respelled to look more Greek), from French and then Latin schismaticus, from Ancient Greek σχισματικός, from σχίσμα, “a cleft, a division.” Same family as schism.
