    You do something sceptically when you do it with doubt sitting in your mind. You listen sceptically. You look sceptically at a promise. You smile sceptically when a says they studied “for five minutes” and still got full marks. The adverb is simply the “how” of : same idea, used on a verb. It can sound calm and fair (“she asked sceptically for the source”), or a little sharp if the face and tone are cold. British spelling; Americans write skeptically. Though actually, you do not need a long speech to show it — a raised often does the same job.
