A scammer is a person who tricks you so they can take your money. They do not use a gun. They use a story. They might phone and say your bank card is in danger. They might send a message that looks like a shop, a delivery firm, or a government office. They might pretend to love you online, then ask you to send money. The trick itself is a scam; the person who runs it is a scammer. People use this word a lot now, especially about phones and the internet. It is everyday English, a bit informal, and it is always . News and police may also say , which sounds more like a law word. A scammer can be far away. You may never meet them. Someone who only plays a small joke on a friend is not a scammer.
