If hardware or software is scalable, it keeps working well when you make it bigger or connect it to many more machines or users. You do not have to throw the whole design away just because the company grew. Tech people say this a lot; it often sounds like a selling point. Though actually, the word has spread: people now call a business or a plan scalable when it can get much larger without breaking. The first home of the word is still computers and networks.
