    If skin is scabby, it is covered with scabs — those dry, hard little crusts that form over a cut or a sore while it heals. You might say a child’s knee looks scabby after a fall, or that an animal’s ears look scabby. It is a plain, slightly ugly-sounding word, used about skin and animals more than about feelings. This is not the disease , and it is not the same as shabby (old and worn clothes or a tired-looking room), even though those two are old twins that later went different ways.
