Savvy means having practical knowledge and good judgment about something, especially in a way that helps you succeed — a business-savvy person understands how to make good business decisions, and a tech-savvy person is comfortable with computers and phones. As a noun, 'savvy' is that same practical know-how — 'she has a lot of political savvy.' It has a friendly, informal feeling, more like everyday conversation than formal writing.

Alteration of pidgin and creole save, sabi 'to know', from Portuguese sabe '(he) knows', from Latin sapere.
