    Saturday is the day that sits between Friday and Sunday. In most English-speaking places it is treated as the first full day of the weekend: many people are off work and school, shops are busy, and families go out. We write it with a capital S because it is a name, not an ordinary noun. We say on Saturday for one day and on Saturdays when we mean every week. In writing, Sat. is a common short form. In American speech people often drop on and treat the word almost like an adverb: See you Saturday. Though actually the ‘weekend’ feeling is not the whole story. In the Jewish calendar Saturday is the Sabbath, a holy day of rest, so the same word can carry a quiet, serious tone in that setting. In some countries the weekend itself falls on Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday. None of that changes the simple fact: it is the day after Friday and before Sunday.
