A sari (you may also see saree) is a long piece of cloth, often five or six metres, that a woman wraps around her body to wear as clothing. It is not cut and sewn like a Western dress. You wind it around the waist to make a skirt, then drape the rest over one shoulder, sometimes over the head. It is worn especially by women from India, and also in neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The cloth can be cotton for every day or silk and gold thread for a wedding. In English, sari is just the name of that garment — not a verb, and not a word for the woman who wears it.
