Sarawak is one of the states of Malaysia. It does not sit on the Malay Peninsula with Kuala Lumpur; it is on the island of , across the sea, on the north-west side of that huge island. It is Malaysia's largest state by land, with rivers, rainforest, and a long coast. People there include Malay, Chinese, and many indigenous groups, each with their own languages and ways. English took the name from Malay; it is a place-name, always with a capital S. Though actually, Malaysia is a country made of states, so Sarawak is not a country of its own, even though it is big enough to feel like one on the map. If you only know 'Malaysia' as one blob in Southeast Asia, it helps to picture two pieces: West Malaysia on the peninsula, and East Malaysia (Sarawak and ) on .
