If you call someone sapient, you are saying they are very wise — they see clearly and judge well. It is a , slightly old-fashioned word, not what you say about a clever in the corridor. The everyday words are wise and sensible; sapient puts on a Latin coat. Scientists use a close form in Homo sapiens, the name for our own species, which means “wise human”. In stories, especially ones with animals or other beings that think, a sapient creature is one that can think like a person. You will meet the adjective far more than any noun use.
