Samson is a man in the Bible who is famous for being very, very strong, and a great fighter. A woman called finds out that his strength comes from his long hair. She gets close to him, he tells her the secret, and his hair is cut off while he sleeps. After that his enemies, the , take him prisoner and make him blind. When his hair grows again, his strength comes back. He pushes down their temple and dies with the people inside. People still say “a Samson” for a very strong man, and “Samson and ” for a strong person undone by someone they trusted. Though actually, it is a sad story as well as a strong-man story: he loses because he gave the secret away, and he “wins” only at the end, by dying.
