A samovar is a large metal container, traditionally from Russia, made to keep water hot for tea. It is not the . The sits on top, and the samovar holds the boiling water you pour over the strong tea. Older ones have a pipe down the middle for hot coals; newer ones may use electricity. A family might keep a samovar going so guests can drink tea for a long time. Though actually, people also buy shiny samovars as ornaments, and the word gets stretched to any grand tea-urn in that style, even outside Russia.
