Salami is a large sausage with a strong, salty taste, eaten cold. It comes from Italy. The meat is with salt and , then left to dry, so you slice it thin and put it on bread or a plate; you do not usually cook it like a fresh sausage. The flavour is big — garlic, pepper, sometimes a little smoke — so a few slices go a long way. You can say a salami for the whole long sausage, or some salami for the meat as food. Italian shops and many supermarkets sell it.
