A safari is a trip, usually in Africa, where you go to see wild animals like lions and elephants living in their own natural home, instead of in a zoo. People usually say they go "on safari," without "a." Nowadays the word is sometimes used more loosely for any trip to watch wild animals, even outside Africa.
