SaaS is short for software as a service. You do not buy a program in a box and install it once on your own computer. You use it over the internet, often by paying every month, and the company that makes it keeps it running and updates it. Mail in a browser, many photo tools, and office tools you open in a tab work this way. People in tech say it as one word, like 'sass'. It is work-and-computer talk, not a family-dinner word. Though actually, the idea is simple: you rent the tool; you do not own a copy on a disk.
