Rumpled is what hair, clothes, or a bed look like after they have been rumpled: not ironed, not combed, not made. A rumpled shirt has been worn or slept in. Rumpled hair looks like you just got out of bed — sometimes that is an accident, sometimes a look people choose. It is the -ed form of rumple, “to make hair, clothes and so on less tidy”, but in real life it behaves more like a describing word than like a verb: we say rumpled sheets far more than someone rumpled the sheets, though both are fine. Though actually, rumpled does not mean ruined. A rumpled jacket can still be a good jacket; it just does not look sharp. Kind, slightly picture-making English — you can see the folds.
