    Rubella is a viral illness that gives you a mild fever and a rash of small red or pink spots. Many people, especially children, get over it quickly. The real danger is pregnancy: if a woman catches rubella in the early months, the baby can be born deaf, blind, or with heart trouble. That is why countries vaccinate against it, usually in the MMR shot (, , and rubella). It is also called German , but it is not the same disease as , which hits harder. Doctors still use the Latin name. The spots look ; that is how it got the name.
