If something is routinely done, it is done as a normal part of a process or a job — not as a special event, and not by accident. Nurses routinely check a patient's temperature. A shop may routinely ask for ID. The word can sound a little cold: it means we always do this, and sometimes it also means we do it without thinking much, as a habit. It is more formal than always or usually. You will see it in news, medicine, school rules, and office English. It tells you about the pattern of the work, not about whether the thing is kind or fair.
