A Rotarian is a member of the Rotary Club (Rotary International). Rotary clubs are groups of people — often from business and the professions — who meet, make friends, and do service work in their town and abroad. They are known for raising money for health and community projects. The name sits on rotary: early meetings used to move from one member’s office to the next, so the meeting place kept turning. In Taiwan the club is well known as 扶輪社; a Rotarian is simply someone who belongs. The word names a person, not a job and not a machine. You would not call a spinning part a Rotarian. It is a capital R, because it is a club name turned into a member-word.
