A rondo is a piece of music built around one main tune that keeps coming back. You hear the tune, then a different section, then the same tune again, then something else, then the tune again — like leaving home and returning. Musicians often write the pattern as A–B–A–C–A. Though actually, those middle parts are not random noise: they are meant to contrast with the main tune, so that when the familiar melody returns it feels like coming home. You meet rondos a lot in classical music, especially as the last movement of a sonata or a concerto, bright and repeating, so the audience leaves with the tune still in their head. It is a music-class word, a little formal, not everyday chat. Football coaches also call a keep-away passing drill a rondo; that is a later, looser use. The home meaning is the repeating musical form.
