To roam means to walk or travel around a large area without a fixed plan or destination — just moving freely, often to explore or look for something. It has a relaxed, free feeling: you might roam around a new city on holiday, or say wild animals roam a forest, moving wherever they like without anyone controlling them. It's also used for a phone: "roaming" is when your phone connects to a network in another country, and it can cost extra money.
