The RMT is a trade union in the UK: workers join it so they can speak with one voice to bosses and to the government. The letters stand for Rail, Maritime and Transport (the full name is the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers). Members include people who work on trains, on the London Underground, (truck) drivers, bus drivers, and some people who work at sea. UK news says 'the RMT' when those workers vote to strike. It is a proper name — say the letters R-M-T. Outside Britain, mainly meet it in news about UK transport. It is not a train company and not a government office.
