A rivulet is a very small stream of water — or of another liquid — a thin line running over the ground, down a window, or down someone's face. After rain you see rivulets on a path. In books you also meet rivulets of sweat or rivulets of blood. It is a careful, written word more than a street word. For a small river in everyday talk, people usually say stream. Rivulet makes the water sound tiny, and often there is more than one thin line.
