A ringmaster is the person who runs the show inside a circus. They stand in the ring — the round space where the acts happen — and talk to the crowd: they call in the next performer, make a few jokes, and tell people to watch the animals or the . In old circuses this person often wore a tall hat and a long coat. “Master” here means the person in charge of that ring, not a school teacher. Though actually, the ringmaster is not always the owner of the whole circus. They are the host of the show you are watching. The noun is the word meet first; a verb “to ringmaster” exists, meaning to run a show in that same way, but people use it much less.
